Meaningful Mime
After just two and half days of learning to perform with Mime artiste, Peter Gorder from Germany, the children from the Thanksgiving Home staged a meaningful performance to depict the restorative power of Love. This was for the opening of CTM’s special program ‘The Power of I AM’ forthe children and women at the Emergency Home.
The story begins with a happy-go-lucky chap who purchases a beautiful cat from a pet store. However over time, he loses interest and neglects the cat, to the point of abusing and throwing it out. The cat finds refuge amidst bags of garbage. Several people pass by but choose to ignore it — a businessman (for lack of time and interest), a mother and child (for fear) . That is, until a man and his cat pass by. Hurt and afraid, the cat retreats but is soon enticed out to eat some food and get the care and love it needs — till it recovers and finds love/family again. The cat returns to her true identity, her original sense of value. In the end, Khun Wanchai takes the mask off the cat, as we all should — to be who we really are, not who others say we are or how we are treated. Let Love define us.
Beautifully put together and acted out by the team with excellent costumes/props, sound effects to provide meaning and encouragement to those in the audience who may have felt similarly rejected, neglected and hurt in their lives. Thank you, Khun Wanchai and the Thanksgiving Home team.
