Dip n’ Dine!
For a very special Christmas treat on Dec. 14th, we arranged for the children from the Emergency Shelter to have a ‘Dip n’ Dine’ evening at the luxurious 5-star Plaza Athenee, A Royal Meridien hotel on Wireless Road.
Right at the lobby, the kids were just thrilled with the sight of the beautifully-adorned giant Christmas tree. If that wasn’t enough, they gleefully then discovered the giant Gingerbread house which tempted a few to bite into the wall décor and windows!
After photos and much persuasion, we finally got everyone in the lift to go up to the picturesque rooftop poolside. Smiling, helpful staff were on hand to quickly serve everyone a choice drink, making every one feel like VIPs!
Soon, we made it into the pool and then, the fun began. The older girls squealed and got into a great game of ‘monkey in the middle’ plus their version of water-polo while the little guys splashed and found great thrills in directing the jets of water from the fountains. They also took aim at the volunteers, who were in the pool to safeguard, who became sparring partners in a few water-fights!
As the sun went behind the clouds and the cool winds blew, the kids began to feel the chill and we all got out – excited about the next phase – the buffet dinner!
The hotel generously offered their well-known seafood buffet and an incredible variety of Thai, Indian, Chinese and Western food at the hotel’s RainTree café.
It was like a beauty contest, with such a sumptuous spread laid before us! Where do you start? The kids were naturally all drawn to the dessert table with the chocolate fountain, gorgeous, creamy cakes, cups of mousse and ice-cream.
But, with an adult each at their side, we went for the range of food on the familiar Thai side. It was amazing how much these little bodies could tuck in! We probably did several rounds of food before eventually relenting to pile on the desserts!
The serving staff at the RainTree were amazing! With all the work of serving the other guests there, they still managed to come over, interact with the kids, take them to the buffet setup, serve them little extras….. we were impressed with the extent of their personal care and kind touch!
Soon enough, we hit the peak and everyone had their fill. Now, they were dying to get off their chairs and go exploring the lobby and Gingerbread house!
Thank you, our friends at Plaza Athenee – you have once again been a sample of a Hotel with a Heart! Your kindness lives on in the hearts of these children, who we hope will one day share this love & overflow on others as well.
