Gifts from urban families reach into the hearts of villagers
The KIS INTERNATIONAL School (elementary PYP classes) in Bangkok made a special drive at Christmas to collect gifts for the disadvantaged children. Some of these gifts were distributed at CTM’s Christmas Charity Carnival 2013 (see previous post on the event) for the children from four Bangkok/Pathumthani institutions. Just a few weeks ago, we were able to send the rest of the boxes and bags of toys, school stationery and books designated for the rural poor . Our coordinator for the displaced communities on the Thai-Myanmar border, Khun Rachen, brought these gifts to about 250 children from two villages in Maeramat in Tak province. These villages, Mooban Laypasookee and Moobaan Khlawlawbur, are quite remote and a distance of about 40km (a two and half hour drive) from Amphur Mae Ramat where the nearest school is located. Rachen, who regularly visits and works with these villagers, reports that this was such a wonderful new year’s surprise for them, with every child receiving more than one gift! Playtime in these villages has definitely been transformed!
