Horsing Around!
When Nong Gift laid her eyes on the ponies at the Little Bit Horse Club, she thought they were cute. When she stood right next to Pocky the pony, she got nervous. When she finally got to sit on the pony, she was really happy & excited.
With a little help, Nong Gift and the other girls from the Emergency Home, overcame all fears as they were coached and eased by Trainer Jo, into riding the ponies. This was a special excursion arranged by Central Thailand Mission, to provide an opportunity for these children to step out beyond the confines of their Home, a protective shelter for abused women and children.
Thanks to Khun Meow, an experienced horse-rider and owner of the Little Bit Horse Club, a whole vanfull of girls from six to 14 got their chance to each enjoy various exercises on the ponies who went by the names –Pocky, Roti, Amorn, Casper and Latte. They were first led in a simple walk around the track, before they learnt to sit sideways, backwards, in dress formation with outstretched arms and hands as well as riding as the ponies trot.
While we had a team on the training track, the other kids got to play games like ‘Pin the horse tail’.
Finally, when everyone was done and after all that sitting, we got the girls to stretch their legs in a sack race! You can see the fun they had with that!
“I could eat like a Horse!” – by the time the games were done, the girls were ready to do just that with the yummy Kai yang, kao niew and som tam prepared by our very own volunteer chef Steven Ekner!
The Club provided some salapaos and soyabean milk drinks to go with the lunch. All done, Khun Meow gracefully gave some adorable stuffed toys to the winners of our games and the sack race!
It was a first time experience for everyone, and memorably, this happened in 2014, the Year of the Horse!
