Distribution of Food in Jungle Villages
A six-hour drive northwest of Bangkok, and it seems we’ve entered another world. From the modern, opulent shopping centres, ever-increasing condos, offices, highways jammed full of traffic, we enter stretches of smooth roads lined with lush, green vegetation for miles! The is the scenic route to the Three Pagoda Pass, at the northern tip of Kanchanaburi province.
This was a timely trip we had to make as we received a generous amount of cheese and canned foods. With the perishables in styrofoam boxes packed with ice, CTM organised a carload of supplies destined for the Border Learning Center, to assist with the critical situation there in the jungle villages nestled between the Thailand and Myanmar.
Our amazing friend, Rolyn, singlehandedly cares more than 10 disadvantaged village youth providing them shelter, education, skills training. Together this team reaches out to teach, train and help others in the jungles and surrounding villages.
This multi-skilled woman is an inspiring community leader who not only runs and maintains this center, created from whatever donations that come in, but she also serves as the main one who teaches life skills including cooking, baking, organic farming of plants, fish, language training, first aid/ handyman besides the abstract motivational, emotional intelligence, healthy mindsets in spiritual foundations.
We brought her about 18 kilos of flour, children’s and ladies clothes, olive oil, sauces, canned tuna, canned beans, jams, cheeses, stationery like crayons, colored pencils, pens, notebooks, toys, shoes, towels & more!
The centre as you can see from the photos is spartan and makeshift as they do what they can for the needs of rooming, training & living with the number of people there.
She has to pay rent of 5,000 baht (US$160) for a basic one-storey house where they have created rooms and extensions to house the 10 youths who are being equipped to lead and help others who are in the same displaced state.
If you’d like to give and help this cause in any way, please drop us a line and we can connect you!! She’s doing a tremendous job selflessly and can really do with more support!
