The Makings of a Memorable Morning!
Thanks to an introduction on a Facebook group, Nicole and I connected to make one memorable morning at the Emergency Home today. Along with her visiting parents, and three kids in tow, she organised a wonderful arts-n-crafts session for the 12 little kids there, ages from two to six. She pulled out an array of supplies from paper plates to cupcake holders, eye masks, ice-cream sticks, color-pencils, glue, cotton wool, colorful and shiny buttons, etc.. With all that, she delighted the kids with their very own-crafted eye-masks, and floral works of art. Her parents and kids had just as much fun helping the kids, helping color/create and seeing how happy the kids were with their efforts. Just when we were about done, KFC came right on time and thrilled the kids with a generous delivery of their favorite finger food of nuggets, fries and fried chicken. Then, it was just sooo quiet as the kids were so engaged eating this yummy lunch! To end our morning fun on a rambunctious note, Nicole hung up a pinata and the kids took turns to strike the ball. The pictures here show the aftermath of the smashed pinata. While the kids were busy with the candy, then getting washed up, ready for their siesta, we all went for a little visit to the nursery where there are 15 babies from three to 14 months. Nicole’s littlest one, Emma at 1.5 years, really enjoyed being a big girl there. Her other older ones, Eli and Evan had made some cookies and bagged them the day before. They then distributed these to the nursery caregivers as well as some of the women at the shelter, and saw how much their baking efforts were appreciated.
