Wave of Happiness
We worked with the Revive Ministry Thailand to organize a trip to Cha-am beach for almost 180 people, kids and families from the Pakistani asylum-seeker and refugee community. For most of them, this was an almost-too-good-to-be-true realization of their dream to experience a beach and feel the ocean breeze and waters. For many, it was their FIRST TIME. Getting off the buses, many kids and youth ran with abandonment to embrace the sea. The adults were a little more cautious but nonetheless, excited. It was fun all the way, including the highlight of the sumptuous picnic lunch that was home-cooked. Surely, this event will stay in their hearts for a long, long time. #SuzanneNam #DaisyEs #TracyGreening #YvonneYangKrieger #RaseeGovindani
We will doing a smaller scale event for the kids in the coming months – like taking them to the Children’s Museum, or the planetarium. This will be for the Pakistani migrant kids who have no opportunity for school or anything as they bide their time during this long wait before UNHCR relocates them to another country – which can sometimes be 2 to 3 years! We just hope to provide some semblance of life, fun and education while they go through this disruption in their lives.
