The Power of I Am
TRANSFORMING and EMPOWERING women INSIDE and OUT! — this was the aim of our special activity – The Power of I AM – at the Emergency Home on Sunday Oct 9th . CTM has been hosting these annual makeover activities for the past 10 years and it’s one of our epic events of the year as it involves a large crew of hairdressers, makeup artists, nail stylists, photographers, performing artistes, various sponsors and their contributions of prizes, food, funds..etc. We had about 30 people actually participating in Sunday’s activity. This year, we included the empowering message of using the power of positive affirmations especially realizing the importance of self-declarations in the words of I AM …. In one of our games, we had the women write up as many positive declarations with the words I AM — the top ten submissions were all invited to choose a prize from our gift table. For everyone who tried, volunteered or participated wholeheartedly in any of the games, there were lots of prizes they could choose from our well-stocked gift table with powders, lotions, bags, toys, belts, jewellery, scarves, baby sleeping pads, towels, makeup, toiletry bags, etc – all kindly provided by contributions from families of KIS international, St Andrews International, BAMBI mother’s group & the Mummy Club (FB forum).
We started off the program with cups of ice-cream for all from Cremo, while everyone watch the excellent Mime performance by the team from the Thanksgiving Home (see previous post on this page) After which we had a great inspiring talk by our emcee, Khun Vararin Mai Tripiyachart, on self-declarations. Then the moment everyone was waiting for — the MAKEOVER . The girls quickly filled up the chairs for hairstyling, for their nails to get painted and faces made. All the ladies received a full set of creams and cosmetics, so generously donated by AVON COSMETICS THAILAND. Of course, not everyone was enthusiastic and several had to be encouraged . “I don’t want to be beautiful’ , I don’t want anything” – were some of the initial stubborn responses but with just some loving encouragement, we helped them find a spot and when they were done, oh how their faces lit up and there was now a spring in their steps. While the ladies were getting their makeover, the kids at Bahn Dek also had their faces done, by Pauline van Gorder who came up with some very creative designs for the kids, from princesses, to superheroes!
Thank you to Khun Weerasak and the Glammer Education Hairdressing School for their large team of stylists, AVON cosmetics for providing everything needed for the makeup, Dasy Design team for the nails, our wonder Mummy team of Robyn, Gail, Izumi, Akemi & three other visitors who jumped in to help with the makeup as there were so many ladies! .
After the hair, makeup and nails, the girls slipped into their ‘fashion show attire’ (see previous post about our Saturday clothes fare) and got their portrait shots done by our special photographic duo of Jonathan Hartman and Mummy Yvonne Y. Krieger. They provided the girls with some awesome shots of their enhanced looks! These were immediately printed on our Canon Selphy, and pasted in a booklet for each girl.
We then got the girls together to do the ‘fashion show’ led by our game and enthusiastic Robyn and Gail who happily led the way with the girls, sashaying down the catwalk before our three judges. They chose ten girls who showed who were bold and looked like they were having fun! These girls received prizes from the gift table.
All the Pregnant Mommies & new Moms also received a bag of supplies specially for them and their newborns. Finally, it was time for LUNCH — generously provided by the OISHI GROUP — the Japenese o-bento lunch boxes plus the healthy tea drinks! A treat!
After lunch, after weeks of preparation, three teams vied in the talent contest for cash prizes — kindly donated from the proceeds of the recent BAMBI Yard Sale at the St. Andrews School (Pridi).
To close the event, we served cake to both the women and the kids at Bahn Dek ! A sweet end to six hours of sheer fun and joy!
Thank you everyone for your contributions, support and participation to equip, empower and enhance the lives and looks fo this disadvantaged community! We couldn’t have done as much without you — thanks for adding value and making the difference!
