Bringing EDUCATION to Refugee Children
Bringing EDUCATION to Refugee children begins with providing them a computer.
There are hundreds of refugees stuck in Thailand – some have been here as much as 8 years! They are all hoping and waiting for relocation to a third country. They cannot attend the local schools because of the language barrier and the fees needed. Some have found smaller schools that charge less and with some help from sponsors, a fraction of these refugees can attend school.
I had this seed dropped in my heart a few months ago about getting online classes for the children and even adults in this community to at least learn English and prepare them for their lives when they get relocated. Then I was speaking to a teacher who said she could get several volunteers to teach if we can get the students all online.
Thankfully, we were able to get kickstarted with 3 refurbished laptops. This would serve 3 families. We will eventually provide for 10 families – one computer each. We are still sourcing some affordable computers which we can purchase for this purpose. Amazingly, I also received a call from someone in Jamaica who has used an interesting teaching program that can effectively teach the language to non-English speakers in a short time. He is excited to work on our program — and so are we!!
